Melodie Colyar OTR, CHT practices at the Briargate location of Action Potential Physical Therapy through Advanced Hand & Orthopedic Rehabilitation. Her degree is a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) for over twenty years, Melodie has developed specialized skills in treating all aspects of injuries to the upper quadrant. She works closely with hand surgeons, occupational medicine doctors and family practice physicians to ensure a seamless team approach is delivered. Because hand therapy is so specialized and technically demanding, Melodie has spent many hours with surgeons in the operating room in order to educate herself on the surgical procedures used and the particular anatomical considerations that need to be addressed in rehabilitation. Attending continuing education courses has also kept her current with evidence-based practices. This is a top priority in ensuring only the best level of state of the art care is provided to her patients.
Melodie states that occupational therapy combines the art of rehabilitation with the science of healing. People who have lost independence due to an injury are often in need of highly skilled intervention and gentle encouragement. Being able to provide both, and seeing people return to their normal daily activities with restored function is rewarding and she feels privileged to be a part of this process.
Melodie’s top priority outside of work is caring for her children and extended family. She has a heart for missions and supports children and families in third world countries. She is also an avid runner.
